At Compton, we are a close-knit family with a strong identity and excellent links with our local community.

 

The outworking of our vision is through our five school values, which we have developed through consultation with all stakeholders including families, governors and pupils because they address specific needs that support the flourishing of our community.

 

Community is at the heart of who we are. Every child and member of staff is known and loved. To support their flourishing, we work closely with parents and help children to build lasting friendships and to navigate disagreements well, understanding that people flourish when they have healthy, strong relationships. As a church school, we are part of a wider community with particular ties to Emmanuel church. We are a community that benefits from our larger links and our shared experience of koinonia. We recognise that we have shared responsibility for each other. We take our inspiration from Romans 12:9, love must be sincere and Luke 6:31, Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. 

 

As a school community, we have a responsibility to support the mutual flourishing of each other. Everyone has a role to play and each of us can make a difference in the world for good. Our curriculum helps children to learn about key people who have been agents of change and inspires them to be the same. We take our inspiration from Colossians 2:23-34 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for God.

 

We offer a holistic education that develops children in mind, body and spirit which supports them to extend their horizons and become hopeful about the world of possibilities that are available to them. We encourage them to take risks in their learning, to be brave, to embrace creativity and to recognise that there is always learning even when things go wrong. Our curriculum and wider offer helps to develop character and perseverance which leads to confidence and children developing a healthy self-esteem. We use the metaphors of Windows, Mirrors and Doors to understand spiritual development and this is a thread through all we offer. 

• Windows - Being curious and experiencing awe and wonder as well as compassion and empathy when things are not as they should be. 

• Mirrors - Reflecting on life and learning and being prepared to ask questions that don’t have easy answers.

• Doors - Taking time to consider our own values, beliefs and ethics. 

 We take our inspiration from Psalm 124:8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth and Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient, be constant in prayer. 

We encourage children to be ambitious for themselves and ambitious for each other. Together we are stronger.
